Last month, I rode to Lime Rock CT for the YB campout. Lime Rock is one of my favorites as you can camp on the hill overlooking the track and watch the club racing! The ride out on Friday had to be one of the best rides of the year, as the temperature was ideal in the high 70’s and my bike ran perfectly through the windey roads! Setting up camp went well and I hung out overlooking the track with Jay Fogelman, watching the cars as well as solving world problems!
As the forecast was for rain on Saturday night, I packed up early in the morning and headed up to Surry NH for the annual Moto Guzzi 1 day rally. Again, the morning ride was great, stopping in Great Barrington, MA. at a French Café to enjoy great coffee and a (low cal) pastry!
Continuing on, it started to rain when I reached the NH border. When I pulled into the state park and headed to the pavilion, I found there to be no one else there! Could it have been canceled? As there is no cell service there, I was unable to check. With no other choice, I headed towards home. Stopping for gas, a quick check on my phone indicated that I was a week early and had in fact, come on the wrong weekend! Oh well! I rode home, some 2 1/2 hours in rain, heavy at times, but still enjoyed the ride! Note to self: Always check for updates!!!
This month, on Aug 16th, the Boston BMW Car Club will be hosting a Show $ Shine car show in Narragansett at the Veterans Memorial Square, by the Casino from 10 – 2. I am planning on stopping by if anyone else is interested. They will also be hosting a Cars & Coffee on August 23rd at Fort Adams from 8 to 10 AM.
Our Club COOKOUT / PICNIC will be on August 22nd at Colt State Park in Bristol, RI., Site #19. Time: 12:30 pm. Same location as last year! This is a no cost event, just bring something to share! There will be a sign up sheet at the monthly meeting for what to bring. NOTE: ALCOHOL IS NOT ALLOWED IN ANY STATE PARKS!
On September 8th there is a Non Sport bike Track Day at Palmer, hosted by Ken Condon and Riding in the Zone! I will be attending this event and cannot stress enough how much of a learning experience that this is! I would like to encourage everyone in the club to attend, as we will all walk away with better riding skills that may someday save us! I will speak on this at the meeting to answer any questions.
I would also like to return to a Thursday night gathering at the A&W in Greenville (Rte. 44) at around 6pm. Great place to just get a Root Beer Float! Bantering is optional, but a usual occurrence!
Our Tuesday, August breakfast is at a new place, the Hungry Haven, 5000 South County Trail in Charlestown. CASH ONLY!! Monthly meeting is on Monday Aug 10th at the Carriage Inn. Hope you can make both!
