Greetings to All!
Saturday 17 January is our Holiday Party. There is still time to sign up but do it now, as in right now! Stop reading this letter and switch pages to buy your ticket(s) before you forget. I’ll wait until you come back………
Welcome back! See how easy that was! Now rest assured you will have a great time at the Holiday Party.
Welcome to the new year! Yes, it is here and so are the dreams of buying a new bike to start the year off. There are a lot of new shiny bikes at Razees, very tempting. Not me! In fact, I am looking to sell my K16 sometime this year. I need more room in the garage.
I am not sure that the pre-snow fall salt they spray on the road is an improvement over rock salt and sand. Let me explain. Apparently, this salt brine solution (water mixed with sodium chloride i.e. rock salt) is effective in preventing the snow from bonding to the road, making it easier to plow and when rock salt is later applied to the surface it is more effective. It is effective in keeping the major roads clean and it appears to reduce the need for sand. Less sand is a good thing, especially for motorcyclists.
The downside is when the roads are dry and the sun shining, you can see the dried salt powder in the air. Add a little wind and the salt powder gets everywhere, including your lungs! The other day driving on the highway it looked like a light fog had descended over the road. After the rain this week the roads and the salt was washed away. However, that fine powder gets everywhere, even more then the larger rock salt crystals. So, riding your vehicles through this fine powder probably gets into more small spaces, requiring a thorough cleaning to prevent corrosion.
Don’t forget this Monday, 12 January is our monthly meeting at the Carriage House. See you there!
