April 2025 – From the Vice President

By John Fraser

Well fellow OSBMW Riders!

Hopefully April warms up and dries out soon!  I’ve only been riding 3 times!  But, that has given me some time to review my Chigee AO-5 for BMW and Denali D3 lights as well as Adcom programmable tail/brake/directional combination and Adcom front LED turn signals mounted on the hand guards.

The Chigoe is a device that mounts directly into the BMW Nav mount and is controllable by the Wonder Wheel.  It has many different dash configurations that all mirror the information sent through the Nav mount.  This includes speed, RPM, gear indicator, engine temperature, tire pressure and exterior temperature. With a flick of the Wonder Wheel it provides me with Apple Carplay, mirroring my phone apps including 3 different GPS programs.  All of this stuff is handy since my bike is a 2016 and does not have a factory TFT screen. The wonder Wheel allows me to navigate between Apps, turn the volume up and down, etc..it connects to my Sena headset in the helmet.  It’s cool stuff and if you get it through the Big Rock Moto site, you can get a discount code. There is another similar product from a company called Carpuride which does the same basic thing and it’s less expensive.  Ian on the  Big Rock Moto YouTube channel has reviewed both.

I had Razee mount the Denali D3 lenses on my 2016 BMW R1200 GSA this past November.  They have 3 different white and 3 different yellow lenses to provide a long spot light, close by fog light or a hybrid combination of the two.  They are very high quality and are programmable by plugging a laptop into the Cansmart wiring.  I’m running yellow lenses for visibility as I don’t ride much at night. I have programmed the day brightness and night brightness, and also programmed them to turn off when I use the turn signals, otherwise, they would wash out the turn signals. The turn signals are enhanced by some Adcom LED turn signals mounted on the hand guards. They are white running lights that flash yellow when the turn signal is used. They seem to work well, but you’ll have to let me know what you think as I can’t see them while riding!!

Finally the Adcom programmable rear tail light/brakelight/turn signal combo is a bright LED setup mounted under the license plate.  It pulsates briefly when used a a brake light, settling into a bright solid stop light. The turn signals are yellow and cascade like a 68 T-Bird.. It’s a great setup and is adjustable from my phone.

Now that all this stuff is operating, it’s time for some better riding weather to use it!!

See you on Monday, April 14 at the meeting at the Carriage Inn in North Kingstown!
