For this month’s coffee stop my wife Pat & I rode to the Sunset Cove in the Island Park section of Portsmouth, RI. Along with coffee, they serve tea, latte, cappuccino, hot chocolate, chai and smoothies. They have pastries, serve breakfast & lunch sandwiches, and stay open until 9pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They also serve beer, wine and mixed drinks, and also Ice Cream!!
There is a beautiful lawn area out back with views of the pond, with the Mount Hope Bridge in the background. This area hosts an outdoor stage, and during the Summer they offer a variety of musical performances in their back yard. Mac McAnally is scheduled to perform their on July 2nd, and is already sold out! In July of 2023, Jimmy Buffett joined McAnally for his final performance.
As I sat down in their Adirondack chair, it was a warm enjoyable morning with several other small groups meeting for their morning brew and conversation. This is probably one of the best locations in the state to sit and relax with friends, or meet new ones, as a regular patron tried to impress me with his latest jokes, most of which I had told years ago! (I did not let on and politely laughed)
From here, it is a short ride to Newport for a trip along the Ocean Drive. Audrain Auto Museum is also on the way, and I heard that their current feature is Airheads, and not just bikes!
Sunset Cove is located at 706 Park Avenue in Portsmouth, and is open 7 days a week at 7 am.
Well worth a trip Over the Bridge!
