Happy New Year! Welcome to 2026! How many of us have travel plans for this year?

Well, this year we will bring back the mileage contest! Forms will be available at Tuesday breakfasts as well as at our monthly meeting. If you can’t make it to either, no worries, just jot down your beginning mileage and get it to me. We will be on the honor system.
On Saturday, January 17th we will be hosting our Winter Bash at the Carriage Inn. Dinner will be the “Carriage Dinner Buffet” with Seafood Stuffed Sole and Grilled Steak Tips with green peppers and onions. Cost is $25.00 pp, for PAID members and a guest. Deadline to register is Thursday, January 15th.
On Friday, January 30th we will be once again be providing dinner at the Providence Rescue Mission on Cranston Street in Providence. If you can lend a hand to help serve, plan on being there around 4 pm.
Tuesday breakfasts are at the Olde Theater Diner in Coventry.
Our monthly meeting will be on the 12th at the Carriage Inn.

On an additional note, if you’re looking for a GREAT read, I have just finished Landings in America by Peter Egan. As many of you may remember, Peter Egan is a retired columnist from Cycle World, where he penned the column “Leanings”. A number of his articles were combined into a series of books: Leanings 1, 2 & 3. He also wrote “Side Glances” for Road and Track.
Landings in America takes place in the Summer of 1987 when he and his wife, Barb flew a small, 1945 Piper Cub J-3, with a 65 hp engine, on a cross country trip that took 6 weeks. In his book, Egan describes the day to day flight, calling it “low and slow, the best way to see rural America”!
I can’t help but to equate his flying adventures to riding a small displacement motorcycle, mainly around back roads.
At any rate, a great read for the winter, available through Octane Press or Amazon.
