October 2024 – From the Secretary

To All,

Thank You to all our members who signed up for our Clam Rally and a special thanks to all those who pitched in to complete the hundreds of tasks to ensure the Rally’s success. We had a smaller attendance then in past rallies with 59 members and guests enjoying themselves. The weather was rainy, so we moved all the events indoors. Sign-in and registration was in the dining hall with a hot cup of coffee to ward off the damp afternoon. Friday evening’s dinner, Vasilios’s famous clam chowder (with cream) and local saugies were served in the dining hall and as always was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. The rain held off enough to have a large bonfire with just enough heat to break the chill from the early autumn evening. A special thank you to Mike Dessarro for supplying (for every rally) a massive quantity of firewood!

Saturday morning turned out to be another grey and wet day, although the rain held off a bit. After a breakfast of assorted pastries, many of the guests headed out to the west where the weather was reportedly better! In fact, several guests who visited the Vanilla Bean Café in Pomfret said the sun made an appearance.

Preparation for the centerpiece of the rally begins early as our Chef orchestrates the cadre of volunteers to begin the process to serve the famous lobster or steak dinner. It is a detailed process involving not only the kitchen, but also cleaning and preparing the dining room.  As expected, the meal was fantastic and the guests thoroughly enjoyed it. How lucky we are to have not only an accomplished Chef in our club, but one who so willingly gives his time and expertise year after year ensuring the rally’s success. Thank you chef Vasilios.

The raffle was another success and we had plenty of prizes for just about everyone except Mr. Wonderful. Better luck next year.  Although lightly raining on Saturday night, it did not prevent another bonfire and a hearty group of night owls to enjoy the slightly wet evening by a warm fire.

Sunday wrapped it up, and as expected, it stopped raining. At breakfast, our guests indicated they had a great time, said there farewells and headed out to home.  Our club volunteers, turned to and cleaned up the kitchen, cabins, dining hall and bathrooms and as usual, we turned over the facilities cleaner then we found them. Today or tomorrow, after a short pause, we will begin planning for next year’s rally. Are you ready?

See you on Monday night! Come early for dinner and motorcycle camaraderie.
